KOTA KINABALU: One of the four escaped detainees from the Manggatal temporary detention centre was rearrested on Friday (March 22) evening.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said the detainee recaptured is 27-year-old Talam Jafar.
ACP Habibi said that he was rearrested at about 4.45pm at Taman Indah Permai near here
“We managed to get this man after receiving information from the public,” he said at the police day celebration rehearsal on Saturday (March 23).
On March 30, five Filipino immigration detainees had overpowered a guard who had opened up the cell block to give them food and fled by scaling a three-metre barbed wire perimeter fence at the Manggatal detention centre here.
A man was recaptured shortly after the break as guards chased after them while four others managed to flee.
ACP Habibi said help from the public is needed to track down and recapture the remaining three escapees
