Five to contest for Umno no 1 post, two members ineligible

PETALING JAYA: There will be five candidates in the race for the Umno presidency after a stringent vetting process.
Those in the race are Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Khairy Jamaluddin, Bandar Tun Razak committee member Mohamed Iqbal Maricair and Iskandar Puteri member Mohd Yusof Musa @ Jamaluddin.
Out of running for the race are blogger and businessman Rahmat Azim Abdul Aziz and Bangi Umno member Rosile Saat.
Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, the man behind the Perlis constitutional crisis has been struck off from the list of vice-president candidates together with Damansara Umno's Mohd Shukry Roslan.
The Umno supreme council contest, which saw 124 people submitting their forms, has been pared down to 106.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the party had scrutinised those who offered themselves as candidates for the polls on June 30.
"The list of those contesting at national level has been vetted by the headquarters as well as the Insolvency Department and fulfilled the criteria set," said Tengku Adnan in a statement on Thursday (June 21).
