It is believed that the unit was used by the fugitive businessman to conduct 'secret meetings'.

The special officer to Najib was the one who informed MACC and police that all 1MDB secret meetings were held at the unit.

KUALA LUMPUR: The raid this afternoon at an apartment owned by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho was based on information provided by a former aide to Najib Razak, said a source.

The man, a Datuk in his early forties, is currently under custody of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“The special officer to Najib was the one who informed MACC and police.

“He informed police that all 1MDB secret meetings were held and discussed in Jho Low ‘s unit at this residential building at Kia Peng,” said the source.

Officers this afternoon broke into the apartment in Jalan Kia Peng, as part of an investigation into Low, also known as Jho Low.

A warrant issued by MACC said “there are logical reasons to suspect that information on offences under the MACC Act 2009 could be available at the premises”.

Low and four others, are wanted by MACC over allegations that some US$4.5 billion was siphoned from 1MDB between 2009 and 2015.

Earlier this month, the commission requested Low to come forward to assist in investigations into SRC International, a previous subsidiary of 1MDB.

MACC has also asked former SRC managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil Nik Othman, 47, to help with investigations, while urging mystery man Tan Kim Loong, who is alleged to be the signatory for numerous bank accounts overseas, where billions of ringgit originating from 1MDB were laundered, to also assist.

It was earlier reported that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had rejected an offer for Malaysian investigators to grill Low in Dubai.
