PRIME Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has warned that government leaders found to be corrupt and abusing their power will be shown the door.

Dr Mahathir, who is in Indonesia for a two-day visit, said the new Government must learn lessons from the previous Barisan Nasional government.

“Our system was running well, but we had a leader who was not trustworthy and abused his power.

“What we need now is a leadership that is not involved in corrupt acts, and we have decided that any leader who is found to be involved in corruption and has abused their power in managing the country’s finances will be sacked from the Government,” he said during a special session with Malaysians living here.

“We need strong evidence to bring him to court. We must make sure that the money stolen is from 1MDB,” he said.

“We need to show proof of how the abuse is being done by Najib, his wife and Mr Jho Low.”

Regarding wanted Malaysians who had fled the country, he said: “I am not sure if they are kidnapped or have run away, but we will get to the bottom of this.”

The Prime Minister, however, did not mention any names.

He also said the Pakatan Harapan government needed time to get the economy back on the right track, and one way was to bring back investments.

He said he had received reports that some “officers” in the previous administration asked for free shares from potential investors.

“When investors don’t invest, we can’t provide jobs and the people will suffer,” he said.

During a question-and-answer session, one Malaysian asked about the Education Ministry’s plans for higher standards of education.

Dr Mahathir admitted that the current education system was rather behind the times and unsuitable for the IT age.

“We depend on teachers with different levels of competency. We are looking for ways to use a system using a thumb drive or disk prepared by experts on the English language, science and maths,” he said.

“Teachers will be the facilitators and students will learn by watching what’s on the screen based on the content of the thumb drive.”
