PETALING JAYA: The police are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, who has escaped from police custody and gone into hiding.

Selangor CID chief, SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the warrant of arrest was expected to be obtained on Thursday (May 31).

He said the police were acting on the case in accordance with the law, and not due to pressure from certain parties as alleged by the Sungai Besar Umno division chief (who used the term "hidden hands").

“For now, there are six cases under investigation, as well as another three based on charges filed at the Ampang Puteri Hospital on May 25.

"We will continue to track him down as everyone is aware he has absconded when in fact, he should be cooperating with the police investigations," he told reporters here today, after attending a ceremony to dispose of criminal case exhibits in the Kajang district, in conjunction with an anti-gambling operation codenamed 'Ops Dadu' at the Bandar Baru Bangi police station.

Jamal, in a video clip claimed there was a planned effort by certain parties to direct the police to frame him at any cost.

According to unverified reports by Sinchew, Jamal is said to have absconded on May 27 to Pulau Karimun, an island in Indonesia.

However, SAC Fadzil declined to confirm the report.

The island is 10km off the coast of south-western Johor and can be reached by boat from Kukup.

He was reported saying that the police were doing all they can to locate Jamal and have requested that Jamal be placed on the Immigration Department's blacklist.

Jamal previously did not turn himself in at the Ampang Police District headquarters on Monday (May 30).
