JOHOR BARU: The public has been urged to stop speculating on the identities of the four suspects who stabbed and ran over a man at a Jalan Sri Pelangi petrol station here on Sunday night.
Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Azman Ayob said the public should stop circulating incorrect and inaccurate information online.
His appeal came after multiple photos of the men allegedly among the four suspects, in the incident that took place at 7.30pm in Taman Pelangi, went viral on social media and messaging apps.
“Investigations are still ongoing and police will update the public on the situation once there are developments.
Many are expressing shock over the horrific attack that was carried out at the busy petrol station often frequented by Singaporeans as it is located close the Causeway CIQ.
The deceased, believed to be a businessman in his 30s, had parked his Volkswagen Polo at the petrol station to check his tyres when the suspects, who came in a white BMW, got out and immediately attacked him.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Khalil Kader Mohd earlier said that a foreign woman in her 20s, who claimed to be the victim’s wife, was inside the Volkswagen Polo, and she immediately ran for help.
He said one of the suspects then tried to pull the victim into their car but he put a fight.
The suspects ran over the deceased's body twice, throwing some firecrackers before leaving the scene.
