MELAKA: A traffic policeman sustained serious injuries when a Perodua Myvi suddenly rammed into him at Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz here, earlier today.

In the 3am incident, the sergeant-ranked traffic policeman was on duty under 'Ops Mabuk' when the Perodua Myvi, driven in a dangerous and reckless manner, crashed into the back of his motorcycle, which was on the left lane of the double-lane, one-way road.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad said initial investigations revealed that the Perodua Myvi almost skidded to the left of the road and to avoid that, he manoeuvred to the right and hit the policeman, who was on a Yamaha Nouvo.

It is also learnt prior to the incident, the Perodua Myvi was involved in a separate minor accident when it rammed into an unidentified car before reaching the Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz bridge.

It is learnt that the Perodua Myvi was travelling from Kota Laksamana to Banda Hilir on Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz.

The traffic policeman identified as Samsaimi Yusop, 54 from the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters, sustained a broken bone and suffered injuries on his head.

He was immediately rushed to the red zone of the Melaka Hospital after the incident and is reported to be in stable condition now.
