MALACCA: The self-proclaimed “Queen of the Malay Archipelago” has had her international passport confiscated as police begin investigations on the Indonesian woman’s background.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Sampornak Ismail said the 37-year-old and her 45-year-old Malaysian husband had been remanded until Tuesday to facilitate a probe under Section 419 of the Penal Code for impersonation.
The couple were arrested at their home in Sungai Rambai, Jasin, at about 2pm on Friday following a police report lodged by the Malacca Legal Adviser’s office after an “investiture ceremony” held at the duo’s house.
Police seized several weapons during a raid at the house.
The woman, who is from Talang Banjar in Jambi, proclaims herself as “YM Bonda Ratu Kuasa Alam Kesumo Dinigratd Tun Saripah Muraini”.
She caused a stir in January 2014 for submitting a proposal to the Chief Minister’s Office to revive her supposed bygone Sultanate.
She denied allegations made by an official from the Chief Minister’s Office who said the woman had claimed to have supernatural powers to create incessant rain and windstorms.
During an interview with The Star at her home in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, in early 2014, the woman had said she was not keen on claiming the Malacca Sultanate throne.
She said it was considered insignificant compared to her “strength” in having 184 Sultans from the Malay Archipelago under her patronage.
In the interview, the woman claimed to be of Turkish-Acehnese parentage and denied having tried to meet Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
The woman, who married at the age of 14, claimed her “supernatural” powers were inherited from a royal bloodline, and that these were not to do harm but to help those in need.
She also claimed her mother “Ratu Laut Selatan” was empowered with the ability to help people.
An online check revealed a significant amount of folklore surrounds Ratu Laut Selatan, who was in control of the violent waves of the Indian Ocean from her dwelling in the heart of the ocean.
During the interview, the woman also claimed that the “skies” had bestowed her with a magical keris dagger, with a dragon’s head and diamond studs embedded in its hilt.
