Education Ministry: Year Six history textbook error 'not small'

KUALA LUMPUR: The mistake in the Year Six history textbook over the location of Malacca is not a small error, said the Education Ministry.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said in view of this, the publisher was told to reprint the textbook which would be ready by the next school session.
“It is expected to be completed by the first or second week of January next year.
"We do not view finding an error on the map of Peninsular Malaysia a small mistake and that's why we have directed the textbook to be reprinted," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the convocation ceremony for the graduates of the 2015 International Diploma in Physical Education and Sports Coaching at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Training Institute here Thursday.
Mahdzir said the printing of the books would only involve national schools.
History books for the Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools are not affected.
On Wednesday, the Ministry ordered the publisher to reprint the history textbook after an error was spotted in the location of Malacca.
Under the heading Negeri-negeri yang membentuk Malaysia (States which form Malaysia), Malacca was placed in the east coast region, above Kelantan.
This had gone viral on social media and drew public reaction, especially from parents. - BERNAMA
