Self-Made Malaysian Millionaire Shares 10 Tips On How You Should Raise Your Child

In today's fast-paced world, raising a child has never been easier or more important. Every parent wants the best for their child, especially when it comes to education.
It’s a common sight these days how parents plan ahead for their children's future from the day that they are born – from saving up for their finances to securing a spot in a top university, and moving on to a successful career.

However, in a recent interview with Malaysia Hari Ini, a daily morning talk show aired daily at 7am on TV3, Malaysian businessman Aliff Syukri or popularly known with his brand name “Terlajak Laris” gave some insights and shared his experiences about raising children with great values, together with his spouse.

The parental skills shared by the humble businessman did not go unnoticed as many viewers commended his practical yet useful tips on raising his children.

One Facebook user who goes by the name of Zah Efa, uploaded a note onto her Facebook recently, summarising all the useful parental tips shared by Aliff Syukri, in these 10 points below:

1. “We have never spoiled our kids with gadgets like smartphones, tabs and other unnecessary electronic gadgets. Their schedules are packed with self-improvement activities such as reading and learning Mandarin, English as well as Tamil. In their spare time, we spend time together as a family.”

2. “Our kids are only allowed to watch television on Saturday, for only 2 hours.”

3. “Instead of eating at dining table, we roll out a mat and sit on the floor to have meals together at home. It also makes feeding each other easier, and we believe this would lead into quality bonding time.”

4. “My kids and I bring lunchboxes prepared by my wife to bring to the office and school. My wife cooks, the maid only assists as I believe a mother’s touch is always best.”

5. “Most parents would give their children RM10 for pocket money in school. Although we send our kids to private school, we only give them RM2 per day for miscellaneous expenses in school.”

6. “Bring your kids to an orphanage every fortnight or so. Let them experience and understand the struggles of living as an orphan.”

7. “Always make it a point to teach your children how hard it is to earn a living. Let them experience the hardships in life as there is no shortcut to success, so they will have to work their way up.”

8. “During a family gathering they will tend to look at what their cousins have, gadgets, toys etc. But I won’t spoil them or allow them to be lavish. If they want something, they will have to earn it.”

9. “It starts from good and loving parents to nurture their kids into being well-behaved. Teachers come second, and we should not rely 100 percent on them to raise our kids. We just want our kids to have a good education.”

10. “Every child has their own strengths and weaknesses, therefore, do not have any favouritism among your kids.”
