MUAR: The main suspect who is believed to have killed before setting fire to his family's home, causing the death of his parents and nephew in Kampung Paya Redan in Pagoh, last Friday was remanded at the Muar Magistrate's Court today.

The remand order against the 48-year-old suspect was issued by Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid from today until August 20 to allow further investigation to be carried out.

The suspect who was successfully apprehended after five days of disappearance was brought to the Muar Court Complex at about 9.13 this morning under strict guard by officers and policemen.

It is understood that the single man was successfully arrested while wandering in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur at around 1am this morning.

The arrest was made by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) of the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) and the Criminal Investigation Division (BJSD) of the Muar District Police Headquarters (IPD) after receiving public information.

In the tragic incident that claimed the lives of three members of his family last Friday, the suspect is said to have fled by leaving the motorcycle he was riding at the Bentayan Bus Stop, here before boarding a bus to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS).

Earlier, in an incident early last Friday morning, elderly couple Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82, and Ara Abdul Hamid, 76, and their granddaughter Noradriana Nor Hisyam, 11, died after their house was set on fire.

The elderly couple died at the scene while the granddaughter died while receiving treatment at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF), Muar.

The incident also caused another of their 14-year-old granddaughters to suffer injuries and is being treated at HPSF.

The 11-year-old child was then safely buried at the Kampung Paya Redan Islamic Cemetery while the remains of his grandparents have yet to be claimed pending the results of a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test due to their condition being more than 80 percent burnt.

The police who initially classified the case as sudden death changed the investigation to 302 of the penal code for murder after finding that there were criminal elements on the bodies of the three victims who died.
