The imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque was arrested by Israel in a raid on his home in Jerusalem on Friday.
According to international reports, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri was detained by Israeli intelligence forces after he prayed during a Friday sermon for the late Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran on Wednesday.
In his sermon, Sheikh Ikrima said: "The people of Jerusalem and its surroundings, from the pulpit of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, mourn the passing of Ismail Haniyeh who was martyred."
Following that, the Israeli police said they were investigating whether the statement was "incitement" and would act accordingly.
However, it is understood that he has been released on the condition that he does not approach the area of the mosque until August 8.
The 85-year-old preacher has been detained several times by the Israeli army and banned from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
