Police looking for X account holder ‘Syedewa’ over offensive post

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a post on the X platform which allegedly smeared the image of policemen manning a roadblock in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya, on Tuesday.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said they are looking for the owner of the 'Syedewa' handle after receiving a report on the viral post yesterday morning.
"Police are tracking down the account owner and investigating the case under Section 505 (c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
"Any witness or anyone with information can contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters operations room at 03-79662222 to assist in investigations," he said in a statement today.
Shahrulnizam reminded the people not to share unverified news.
A check by Bernama showed that as of noon today, the post has garnered more than 2,500 shares.

Police are tracking social media influencer, Syedewa for uploading a message aimed at shaming the image of a public servant until it went viral on the X application last Tuesday.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said, his side received a report at about 7.30pm yesterday about a hack that was uploaded on the 'Syedewa' account.
He said, several pictures uploaded in the bulletin showed a police officer carrying out roadblock duties at about 10.45am at Damansara Damai, here, last Tuesday.
"The post was uploaded with the aim of humiliating the image of police officers who are on duty.
"The investigation is conducted under Section 505 (C) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
"At the moment, we are still tracing the account owner to take information," he said in a statement today.
Shahrulnizam added, the public is advised to obey the law and not get involved in the spread of uncertain news.
"People who have any information or witnesses regarding this case can contact the operations room of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters at 03-79662222 to assist with the investigation," he said.
Earlier, Syedewa or real name Syed Mohamad Fahmi Syed Shabthar, 36, uploaded a tweet expressing his dissatisfaction when he wanted to be sued by the traffic police because he was believed not to be wearing a seat belt.
The influencer, who is also a cosmetic product entrepreneur, claimed that the police officer issued a summons without including solid evidence when requested.
To date, the tweet has received over 2,600 shares and 5,100 likes.
