DUN Mahkota by-election September 28, nomination of candidates September 14 - SPR

PUTRAJAYA - [UPDATED] The Election Commission (EC) has set the voting day for the By-Election (PRK) of the Mahkota State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Johor on 28 September.


EC chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said, the date of candidate nomination and early voting for the by-election was set for September 14 and 24 respectively.

He said this at a press conference after chairing a special meeting at Menara SPR here, to discuss important dates related to the Mahkota state assembly by-election.



The Mahkota state seat is vacant following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on August 2, while receiving treatment at Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK), Kluang.


The former Johor UMNO Women's Leader was previously admitted to HEBHK's Intensive Care Unit due to shortness of breath.


The Mahkota state assembly by-election is the tenth by-election to be held after the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022.
