KUALA LUMPUR: The retail price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia has been reduced by 5 sen to RM3.30 per liter starting tomorrow until August 14.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) in a statement informed that this move is in line with the drop in oil prices in the world market at the moment.

"The retail price of diesel in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remains at RM2.15 per litre," he said.

This is the first time diesel prices in the Peninsula have been lowered after the retargeting of the fuel subsidy, which took effect on June 10.

MOF said the retail prices of RON97 and RON95 petrol were maintained at RM3.47 and RM2.05 per liter respectively during the same period.

"The government will continue to monitor the impact of changes in world crude oil prices and take appropriate measures to ensure that the welfare and well-being of the people continues to be preserved," he said.

World oil prices plunged last week as fears of a US economic recession began to mount and earlier investors sold their petroleum holdings.

This week's trading saw the price of oil fall to as low as US$75 on Monday, the lowest since December 2023, before rebounding the following day.
