Akmal questions why he needed to be detained in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: UMNO Youth Leader, Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh questioned why he needed to testify in Sabah when no statement was issued in the state.

Dr Akmal said, he came to Sabah only to attend the breaking fast program with Sabah UMNO leadership which is usually organized in every state and Sabah is the last state for the program.

According to him, his presence in Sabah is also not to create disturbance or cause problems in this state.

"There was absolutely no report from Sabah, there was absolutely no statement from Sabah, everything happened in the peninsula so we came here on the UMNO Youth programme. We came calmly, so I think we did not disturb anyone here so there is no problem.

"I wonder why they can't wait for me to return to the peninsula because it is already fixed.

"The report was in Kuala Lumpur so I was wondering why it was necessary to hurry, what is really important, it's not that I'm not coming back, I'm coming back and we've given a commitment but we also want to (take information in Sabah)," he told reporters here on Friday.

Asked if he would be present to testify at IPD Dang Wangi again, Dr Akmal said he was ready to cooperate.

"I think we will give full cooperation to the police for the investigation. If it is necessary to be called and I will be present 'no fear, no surrender' (no fear, no surrender)," he said.

In the meantime, Dr Akmal told that there is no ban so far for him to enter Sabah.

"No, it's okay for us to enter as usual. I'm already here, otherwise I'll sit at the airport again," he said.

Dr Akmal had previously arrived from Kuala Lumpur at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) and was taken to IPD Kota Kinabalu for questioning.

He finished testifying around 12 noon, which is about two and a half hours after being taken to Kota Kinabalu IPD.

The testimony was taken in relation to a report made against him in relation to the Sedition Act regarding a video of his speech in Kelantan.

He was then called again to testify at the same IPD shortly after, before being seen leaving after about two hours. -
