KUALA LUMPUR: Rogue cops who tried steal money from a money changer here were nabbed after their actions were caught on CCTV.

The arrested policemen - an inspector and five others - were arrested by city police early Tuesday (May 21).

On Sunday (May 19), the complainant was approached by the suspects and three others, who identified themselves as policemen and officers from Bank Negara.

They raided the money changing outlet, citing that the complainant had no licence to operate his business.

It is known that they seized around RM4,000 in cash during the "raid".

The suspects offered to "settle the case" for RM200,000, which the complainant paid after obtaining it from his house. He then paid the money to the suspects at a bus stop near Jalan Tun Perak here.

City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim confirmed the case in a statement released Tuesday night.

"We have arrested four more civilians, including a Bank Negara employee, on Tuesday.

"We are viewing this case seriously and would not compromise with any police officer or civilian involved in criminal activities.

"Those found guilty will face legal action equal to the offence committed," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 170 of the Penal Code, for gang robbery, and for impersonating a public servant.
