Gobind tells RTM to get more World Cup matches, reveals Maxis as main sponsor

PUTRAJAYA: Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo has instructed Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) to procure the rights to broadcast more 2018 FIFA World Cup matches than the 41 initially planned for.
At a buka puasa event held at the ministry here on Friday (June 8), he also revealed that Maxis is the main sponsor for the broadcasts on RTM.
"Maxis is the main sponsor for the event.
"At this point, we have successfully obtained sponsorship for 41 matches, but I have told RTM to negotiate for more matches.

On May 30, Gobind announced that the Government had allocated RM40mil to provide free broadcasts, both live and delayed, of 41 of the total 64 World Cup football matches on RTM.
On June 2, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said that they had obtained enough private sponsorship to cover the RM30mil cost of broadcasting the 2018 World Cup live on RTM.
He added that with the sponsorship, the Government would not be forking out a single sen for the broadcasts and that the cost to taxpayers is nil.
