PUTRAJAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has instructed Pakatan Harapan to change its logo to include its full name instead of just “Harapan”.

Pakatan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the RoS has given them several guidelines on designing political logos and advised the coalition to come out with a new one.

"We met with RoS officers to submit the application to register as an official party. They have no issues with our constitution, but they have ordered us to change our logo.

"They said the current logo is not suitable, as it only carries the word ‘Harapan’. They want us to include ‘Pakatan Harapan.’

"We accept this advice and will comply with it. We will come out with the new logo in two days and submit it to the RoS as soon as possible," he told reporters after submitting the application to the RoS here today.

Also present were Pakatan president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir; Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu; DAP national organisation secretary Anthony Loke; and DAP vice-president Teresa Kok.

When asked if two days are enough for the coalition to prepare the new logo, the former prime minister said they already have an idea for it.

"We have thought about it and have an idea on how to design the new logo.

"We will discuss it with professional designers and study their suggestions," he said.

Dr Mahathir said it is important to get early approval from the RoS, as it would help facilitate the coalition’s campaign preparations for the upcoming general election.

"Although the RoS did not give any time frame to re-send the application, we will expedite the process to get approval. If not, it would be hard for us to produce our posters, T-shirts and banners to campaign for the general election," Dr Mahathir added
