Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth and Umno Youth are accusing each other of being "samseng" (thugs) after a scuffle broke at PWTC

Police probe scuffle between Pribumi and Umno members

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth and Umno Youth are accusing each other of being "samseng" (thugs) after a scuffle broke out between the two groups at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pribumi Youth wing delegation was en route from Sunway Putra Mall to PWTC at 2.30pm to deliver an invitation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to attend the "Nothing to Hide 2.0" forum featuring Pribumi chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when they were allegedly confronted by Umno Youth members.
A shouting match quickly ensued between Umno Youth exco member Datuk Armand Azha Hanifah and Pribumi Youth information chief Ashraf Mustaqim.
Members of the parties also started shoving each other as tempers flared.
KL Umno Youth chief Datuk Razlan Rafii said that the Pribumi Youth delegation was carrying provocative placards and attacked Umno on their march to PWTC.
"They came to our place with an intention to start a provocation between the youths.
"Pribumi Youth started the provocation with their placards, they started the provocation with their WhatsApp messages calling for hundreds of members to PWTC.
"If they wanted to send the invitation letter, they can send it via email or they could send using a dispatch service, but the way they sent their invitation amounts to thug-like provocation," he said.
Pribumi Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said in a statement that there was no need for Umno to stop the delegation.
"Respond with debates, not with punches," he said, adding that he is proud of his party, claiming that his members remained calm during the incident.
Dang Wangi district police chief Supt Mohd Sukri Kaman confirmed the incident, saying that the matter will be investigated as there was no notice given to the police under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
"A group of men was walking from Sunway Putra Mall towards PWTC and when they stopped at a traffic light at the corner of Jalan Putra and Jalan Tun Ismail, another group of men came from the direction of PWTC to halt them from continuing their journey, and this led to a scuffle" Supt Mohd Sukri said.
He said the police managed to bring the situation under control and by 3.30pm, those involved in the scuffle had dispersed.
