IPOH: A Datuk and his wife were ambushed by a group of six parang-wielding robbers as they were about to leave their home in Taman Meru Heights here.

Datuk Mansor Ahmad, 67, the former chief executive officer of MajuPerak Holdings Bhd, suffered deep cuts on his head during the unprovoked attack.

His wife, a retired lecturer, was slashed on her right palm trying to shelter their three-year-old grandson during the 3.30pm incident yesterday.

According to the couple’s second son Raimi Mansor, 32, he was alerted to the daylight robbery by his wife.

“One of my wife’s friends who was nearby informed her of the incident. So we quickly rushed back from Kuala Lumpur,” he said when met at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here where his parents were being warded.

Raimi said his mother was very pale and shaken while his father was given stitches for his wounds.

He said six men came on motorcycles and entered the house after his father opened the gate.

“My parents were going to visit my younger sister who had just given birth yesterday (Wednesday),” Raimi said.

Mansor’s daughter, who did not want to be named, said she was with her parents when they were about to head out.

“Suddenly, six men with parang entered the porch before slashing my father.

“Then they came after me, slashed my mother and demanded money and gold. Due to our screams, they fled with our car and house keys,” she said.

A neighbour who saw the attack quickly contacted the police.

Ipoh Deputy OCPD Supt Abdul Rani Alias confirmed the incident.

“However, none of the witnesses were able to identify the assailants,” he said.
