Dr Mahathir hands over Citizens' Declaration to King
PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah to hand over the Citizens’ Declaration.
Sufi Yusof, special assistant to the former premier, said the meeting between Tuanku Abdul Halim and Dr Mahathir took place on Thursday at the Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar.
When asked if Dr Mahathir would reveal what he had discussed with the King, Sufi said there were “no plans at the moment”.
Dr Mahathir launched the Citizens' Declaration on March 4 after teaming up with key political figures and civil society leaders to seek the removal of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Declaration calls for, among others, a repeal of all recent laws and agreements that violate the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Federal Constitution and undermine policy choices, and the restoration of the integrity of institutions.
In May, Dr Mahathir announced that the declaration had surpassed its initial target of one million verified signatures.
