Cops nab nine involved in Putrajaya goldsmiths shop robbery

PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya police managed to solve the case involving the first goldsmiths robbery at Presint 15 here on Aug 14 with the arrest of nine men within three weeks of the incident.

Putrajaya District Police chief ACP Rosly Hasan said all the suspects, aged 20 to their 30s, were detained in a series of arrests in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan and were being remanded at the Putrajaya District Police headquarters.

"Also seized are a Toyota Alphard vehicle, a Perodua Viva vehilce, a motorcycle and cash amounting to RM19,439 believed to be a portion of the sales from the stolen gold items.

"Other items seized are transaction documents such as for loan sharks debt payments totalling RM1,100, receipts for medical costs of one of the suspect's child, watches and equipment for melting gold," he told a news conference here Sunday.



He said the nine suspects played different roles in the robbery whereby three of the men robbed the jewellery shop armed with hammer and pepper sprays while one suspect waited in the Toyota Alphard and another in the Perodua Viva.

Two others detained were the buyers of the molten gold, another carried out the gold melting process and one facilitated the transactions of the molten gold, he said.

They were detained under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.
