Cook jailed five months for obstructing royal convoy
JOHOR BARU: A mother of two has been sentenced to five months' jail by a magistrate's court here after she pleaded guilty to obstructing the duty of a senior police officer that was part of a royal convoy.
Nur Haslinda Abdullah (pic), 29, who works as a cook, pleaded guilty after her charge was read out in front of magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias here on Tuesday.
She had prevented Supt M. Kumar from carrying out his task as a police officer at KM12 along Jalan Tebrau heading towards Kota Tinggi at around 4.30pm on Sept 9.
Nur Haslinda was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment of two years, fined not more than RM10,000, or both upon conviction.
Magistrate Mohd Azlan then sentenced her to five months in jail starting from the date of conviction.
In a separate court, Nur Haslinda, who did not have a driver's license, was also charged with driving recklessly and dangerously.
According to the charge sheet, the way she drove was dangerous to other road users at the same time and place.
Nur Haslinda, who was driving a Proton Gen-2 car at the time, did not give way to the convoy and deliberately sped up and almost ran into a police motorcycle outrider.
She was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act (Act 337/87), which carries not more than five years imprisonment and a fine of not more than RM15,000.
Nur Haslinda pleaded guilty to the offence and magistrate Salina Omar sentenced her to a day in jail and a RM5,000 fine, in default eight months' jail.
Salina also ordered that Nur Haslinda could not apply for a driving license or drive any vehicles for a two-year period.
DPP Siti Asmah Zainal Ariffin prosecuted both cases while the accused was not represented.
