Umno AGM: Dr Mahathir arrives at PWTC
KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) has arrived at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here to attend the Umno general assembly.
He was seen arriving with his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali at 8.25am Thursday.
Dr Mahathir, who has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, said last week he would attend the general assembly.
The former premier was given a verbal invitation by party vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was also seen arriving for the start of the assembly.
The former deputy prime minister said on Wednesday that he would be present at the assembly from start until the end despite not being allowed by the Umno supreme council to deliver a speech.
Muhyiddin, who has also recently spoken out against Najib, delivered a speech to his supporters in Kampung Baru on Monday, prompting the party to open an investigation into his conduct.
Also seen arriving for the event were MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
