• 6.10pm The whole Dewan Merdeka is on its feet as Negaraku plays, bringing a halt to proceedings.
• 6.05pm Najib ends his speech. Delegates cheer as Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin smiles and briefly shakes hands with Najib.
• Dewan Merdeka roars its approval when the Umno president notes that however, anyone who wants to pick a fight will not be doing so with ‘Najib Razak’ but the whole party. He shouts that there will be“no retreat, no surrender.”
• There is no sense in being enemies when others will reap benefits. There are always low and high tides in life, he says.
• Najib says he has chosen to be the ‘bigger person’ for the sake of unity and to strengthen ties in Umno. This triggers a huge response from the crowd, and a standing ovation from all delegates.
• Security issues are as great concern, especially with the arrests of 130 people so far linked to terror groups. He says they will explore all avenues, including a special court for this. He adds that Sabah must be protected at all cost.
• Umno, he says, must do more to garner the people's support in ensuring Barisan Nasional’s victory in the upcoming general election.
• Malaysia, he says, is now ranked 14th out of 61 countries in the world competitiveness rankings. He expresses confidence that Malaysia can be in the top 10 within the next few years.
• Malaysians, he said, should not fear the TPP and must be willing to compete to prosper.
• Najib says he told US president Barack Obama that the Bumiputera agenda is a red line for Malaysia. Malaysia will otherwise not accept the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
• He says there are already positive changes to the Bumiputera economy but due to structural issues, it will take time to see Malays improve in leaps and bounds.
• Najib wants Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry officers to go to the ground and conduct more enforcement checks.
• There will also be a special salary increase for civil servants next year. However, Najib says this must be commensurated with hard work on their part.
• I have asked KTMB yesterday to give a 50 per cent discount to students by simply showing their student cards, says Najib.
• Najib explains the ERL agreement, which was signed in 1997. He said he felt the agreement was one-sided, as it could lead to a raise in prices every five years. The government had to pay RM2.9 billion in compensation, and had to negotiate another 30-year agreement.
• Malaysia should be proud that its economy still grows at 5pct on average amidst challenges and constraints, says Najib. Najib stresses that he listens to the people’s concerns over the cost of living.
• Umno, says Najib is a political instution, a place where Malays can depend on, which will determine the progress of the Malays. That, he says, is why if there isn’t any discipline, no loyalty, Umno will fail.
• Najib says it is Malay culture to advise a person with politeness, and not with blunt attacks. People, he said, should not easily believe in allegations as they should be investigated first.
• Applause all around as the president praises the organising committee for its handling of the general assembly. Najib also draws laughter from the crowd when he says he hopes Kedah will win the Malaysia Cup final tonight.
