Malaysia's Marcus Low |
IT’S a battle between Malaysia and Singapore in the Grand Finale of MasterChef Asia next Thursday (Dec 10) at 9pm on Lifetime (Astro Ch 709) with 24-year-old banker Marcus Low representing our country against Singaporean contestant Woo Wai Leong.
Singapore's Woo Wai Leong |
In an emotional episode yesterday (Dec 3), the three final contestants, Low, Woo and another Malaysian contestant Jasbir Kaur were inspired by a video message from their own mothers, and had to come up with a family favourite dish while raising it to the MasterChef standard.
Low attempted a modern rendition of his mother’s bubur cha cha while Jasbir did her own version of a Malaysian favourite, nasi lemak.
After a grueling 60-minute cook-time, the contestants found out that there were special guests coming for dinner — mommy dearest! — in the end,
Woo won the dish of the day with his perfectly cooked lamb, assuring him a spot in the finale, while Jasbir’s time in the competition came to an end.
In the two-hour grand final next week, Low and Wong will face their toughest tests yet: a Mystery Box, a Chef’s Round Table Meal and a Pressure Test — and in the end, only one of them will be crowned as the winner.
Join culinary genius Susur Lee; 3-Michelin-starred chef Bruno Ménard; and Singapore-born, Audra Morrice, a MasterChef Australia finalist, as they judge who will Asia’s first MasterChef winner.
