BALIK PULAU: A primary school security guard has been charged with killing Form Five student Intan Suraya Mawardi whose death shocked the tiny hamlet of Teluk Kumbar near here.
A solemn Tarmizi Yaakob (pic), 20, arrived at the court building here at 8.15am yesterday and was led to the lock-up there before appearing in the magistrate’s court at 9am.
Clad in a grey short-sleeved T-shirt and blue jeans, he kept his gaze towards the front and occasionally on the ground.
Seated in the crowded public gallery behind him was Intan Suraya’s father Mawardi Abdul Hak.
His case was called up at 10.05am after the court disposed of or mentioned other cases.
Tarmizi, who was unrepresented, was charged with murdering Intan Suraya, 17, on Oct 25 between 7.30am and 7.30pm at Flat Bandar Baru Perda in Teluk Kumbar.
He nodded when asked if he understood the charge.
Tarmizi, from Permatang Damar Laut, faces the mandatory death penalty should he be convicted.
No plea was recorded.
DPP Shafiq Mahadi prosecuted.
Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit set Jan 13, next year, for mention pending the DNA report.
It was reported that Intan Suraya was found semi-nude in a pool of blood on her bed at a flat in Teluk Kumbar on Oct 25.
