PETALING JAYA: Consumers in most areas in the Klang Valley except for those in Petaling district will be happy that water supply will return to normal in time for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Syabas corporate communications and public affairs general manager Priscilla Alfred said supply in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang would be restored by today or tomorrow morning.
“If people use a lot of water, the recovery takes longer,” she told The Star yesterday.
She also said only 21% of households in the Petaling district had their water supply restored so far.
However, Syabas would be delivering emergency water supply via static tanks and tankers, with priority given to events such as weddings and funerals and also premises such as dialysis centres, hospitals and welfare homes.
She advised consumers to log on to www.syabas.com.my or use the MySYABAS app to find out the latest information on the water disruption.
It was earlier reported that almost 460,000 households in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang were affected by the unscheduled water disruptions that was caused by a reduction in treated water from the Sungai Semenyih treatment plant.
The operations were halted on Sunday morning after high levels of ammonia and manganese levels were detected in Sungai Semenyih.
The treatment plant had resumed normal operations at 3am yesterday.
A consumer who wanted to be identified as Ong, from Subang, said that the issue of water contamination should not be happening over and over again.
“I can only hope that the water supply will be restored soon. I have to clean my house for the Chinese New Year celebrations,” he said.
