One soldier killed and two hurt in truck accident

KOTA KINABALU: A soldier was killed and two others seriously injured when an army truck turned turtle and crashed in a monsoon drain in Sabah’s east coast district of Lahad Datu.
The 20 other personnel from B Company of the Royal Malay Regiment suffered light injuries in the accident at Kampung Biuang at about 10.30am on Saturday.

Kpl Mohd Farouk Baha, a bachelor, died shortly after he was admitted to the Lahad Datu hospital.
Lahad Datu police chief Asst Comm Hamzah Ahmad confirmed that a soldier was killed.
Of the two badly injured, he said that one was in critical condition while the other was in a serious but stable condition.
The other soldiers received outpatient treatment at the hospital.
It was learned that the truck was part of a three-vehicle convoy heading from Kem Cenderawasih in Tungku to Sandakan to take part in a military exercise.
ACP Hamzah said police believed the driver lost control, causing the truck to overturn and land in the drain, which was apparently under construction.
“We are still investigating,” he added.
Two soldiers were in the front of the truck with the driver while the rest were in the rear.
