SHAH ALAM: Police have taken a man's statement regarding the discovery of luggage containing more than RM500,000 in cash in the parking lot of a shopping center in Damansara, Petaling Jaya on March 19.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the man was identified through closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage in the area as the individual who placed the luggage at that location.
"Based on the man's testimony, we believe he is the individual who brought and left the luggage containing the money in the parking lot of the shopping center.
"But so far, we have not been able to ascertain his motive for doing so," he said at a press conference after inaugurating the Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri and the Breaking of the Fast Ceremony with Police and Highway Concession Officers here today.
Hussein said the man was not the individual who claimed to be the director of an information technology company and claimed the money belonged to him as previously reported.
He said the police however did not rule out the possibility that the man was from the same company as the director.
According to Hussein, further inspection of the luggage has found seven fingerprints and his party is conducting further investigations regarding the owner of the identity.
"We are preparing the investigation papers before taking them to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action," he said.
Earlier, Hussein was reported to have said that the police will call three more witnesses to help investigate the case who are friends of the director of the company involved after the Aidilfitri celebration.
