The Keirin event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics yesterday caught the attention of many netizens on social media.

Apart from the success story of our national athlete, Datuk Azizulhasni Awang who won a silver medal in the Keirin event, the 'pacer' who worked at the event also became the talk of netizens. Why talk about him?

" Is there's no one else"

Min was attracted by some tweets from twitter users who questioned why senior citizens were pacers in the finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Keirin. The matter also caught the attention of local television commentator, Tuan Zainal Abidin Rawop.

Tuan Zainal said something like this, "Why is the keirin event pacer for senior citizens (the elderly)" . He mentioned this even after reading a tweet from a netizen. 

However, the sharing of a Facebook user, Hizandie Shuaib, turned out to amaze the public as soon as they found out the true identity of the senior citizen.

"That's not just any senior citizen". Hizandie said that the ‘old man’ was a bronze medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in the individual sprint event .

The senior citizen known as Sakamoto Tsutomu was honored to be a 'pacer' at the finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Keirin .

"As old as our fathers are"

The 59 -year -old Sakamoto celebrated his birthday on August 3. He was honored to be a 'pacer' using a Panasonic e-bike specially created for the Games this time.

Sakamoto is also the focus of netizens because at his age, he is still able to ride a bike and be a 'pacer' for the Keirin final event at the Tokyo Olympics yesterday.
