KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 -- The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has announced the appointment of Professor Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) effective Feb 8, 2021 to Feb 7, 2024.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said Mohammad Shatar replaces Professor Datuk Dr Husaini Omar, who was appointed as the MOHE director-general on Feb 1.
“I am confident Professor Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar will continue to drive MQA’s transformation towards achieving its vision as an agency of global authority in qualifying and guaranteeing the quality of higher education," he said in a statement today.
Mohammad Shatar, 54, holds a diploma in General Studies from Indiana University of Bloomington in the United States, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University, and a Doctorate in Leadership and Community Development from the University of Missouri in the United States.
He began his career in education as a tutor in the Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1994. He has served as the UPM Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre director as well as other administrative and academic positions such as deputy vice-chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs) of UPM and vice-chancellor of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris.
He also has specialised expertise in the field of leadership and community development, and has produced more than 40 books and published more than 171 journals, books, modules and articles related to the field.
