PUTRAJAYA, Dec 11 -- Two non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Gagasan Baru Harapan Malaysia (GBHM) and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Bersatu Selangor (PKABS) today submitted a memorandum to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) urging for a thorough investigation over the ‘meat cartel’ case in Senai, Johor recently.

GBHM president Mohd Zulfitri Mohd Basir, when met by reporters at the MACC headquarters here, said the NGO believed there were leakages and involvement of corrupt elements among officers controlling the ports due to the large volume of illegally imported meat smuggled into the country.

Meanwhile, his counterpart from PKABS Rahmadin Alimuddin said the MACC should investigate the owner of the Approved Permit related to the case.

An MACC officer confirmed receiving the memorandum when contacted.

The media recently reported the activities of a ‘meat cartel’ said to have been smuggling frozen meat from China, Ukraine, Brazil and Argentina before repackaging them with fake Halal labels at a warehouse in Senai, Johor.
