PETALING JAYA: The government has approved the appointment of Mohamed Farid Abu Hassan as head of the Special Branch, replacing its acting director, Abdul Hamid Bador, who was made the inspector-general of police last month.

Farid has been with the force for 40 years, 36 of which were with the Special Branch. His appointment took effect on June 17, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“He also has experience in criminal investigations and prosecution,” Muhyiddin said in a statement.

Prior to his appointment, Farid was the deputy director of the Special Branch
