SEREMBAN: The sale of luxury yacht Equanimity is proof that the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal was real and not made up as claimed by the previous administration, says Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
"They say that 1MDB was a lie. If it was a lie, then how can we sell Equanimity to Genting Malaysia Bhd for US$126mil (RM514.14mil)?
"It is proof that 1MDB really happened. Equanimity and the luxury bags weren't lies, they were real. The bags of money were not false stories. Public funds were involved," said Lim in a ceramah at Kuala Sawah here on Friday (April 5).
He added that 1MDB, however, was not the only scandal plaguing the nation's financial health but that there were also many great scandals that require the 11-month-old government's attention.
He said that as the Finance Minister, he is supporting efforts by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa to save these institutions.
"There are many things we want to see returned to our country but we need some time.
"At the same time, there are many scandals that we have to solve involving billions of ringgit.
"They stole but we get blamed. They stole and plundered and we try to save the country but we get blamed. We have been duped for a long time," he said.
Lim was present at the ceramah to rally support for Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Rantau by-election Dr S. Streram.
