KUALA LUMPUR: All police personnel, especially the young ones, must carry out their duties without racial or religious prejudices, says Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador.

The Acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police said utmost professionalism was a must, and this principal should be instilled in police personnel as early as the day they graduate from police training.

“As the leading enforcement agency, the police cannot be emotional towards a certain race or religion.

"If there is a spirit of bias against others, I am confident any action taken (by the police personnel) will not comply with the law.

“The nation’s laws are very fair and ensure the rights of all races and religions to live in harmony,” he told reporters after attending the graduation ceremony for 393 Cadet Inspectors at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Saturday.

A career in the police force placed a demand on all personnel to sacrifice time and use all the fibres of their being to carry out their duties in ensuring the safety and security of all, he added.

“Society has high expectations over the credibility and performance of the enforcement agencies, especially the police.

“We must live up their expectations and even surpass it,” he said.

Comm Abdul Hamid reminded all personnel to avoid being involved in social ills, corruption, wrongdoings, and any action that could tarnish the image of the police.

“Fulfil your duties to the best of your abilities to ensure that our institution remains relevant in the eyes of society and the nation,” he said.

On the graduation ceremony, Comm Abdul Hamid said he shared in the happiness of the families and parents of the Cadet Inspectors, who had just completed their training.

“I also commend the Pulapol commandant for staging such a beautiful parade,” he said.
