Rahman: Hope M’sians like movie

KUALA LUMPUR: A.R. Rahman (pic) hopes his Malaysian fans will enjoy the 90-minute documentary One HeartThe Concert Movie which is screening in cinemas now.

It showcases footage of the internationally-acclaimed Indian composer performing all over the world and some “behind the scenes” footage.
“I am more interested in doing music but while performing every day, I realised I was working with great musicians. I thought to myself – let’s record this.
“It has its own story and is not predictable. I hope you will all like it,” he said at a press conference attended by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.
The premiere was held at TGV KLCC and saw about 400 fans gather to see their idol on the red carpet.
Commenting on the death of T. Nhaveen, 18, who was brutally assaulted by a group of youths in June, the Oscar-winning composer said: “The incident was very unfortunate.
“People in Malaysia have always shown me so much love and I wanted to tweet to Nhaveen because I was very, very concerned for the boy. I was moved (by his plight). And I was disturbed (about what had happened).”
Proceeds from the documentary will go towards his foundation, One Heart, which funds music education.
“I found music to bring hope. Why not give back? That is why we give underprivileged children instruments to give them reasons to hope,” said the Indian star known for his humanitarian work.
Rahman has written over 600 compositions, mostly for films, including those from outside of India.
The 50-year-old has won two Academy Awards (for his work on Slumdog Millionaire), two Grammy Awards, a Bafta and a Golden Globe award, besides numerous awards and nominations in India.
He was in Malaysia last year for his concert Pele: Birth of a Legend at Stadium Merdeka
