Police dismiss claim he was thrown off flyover by four men

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed a claim that a motorcyclist was thrown off a flyover here on Monday. The deceased, a 33-year-old navy man, was instead found to have health issues that caused him to suffer blackouts.

City Traffic Investigation and Legal Affairs staff officer Deputy Supt Shafie Daud said police were initially notified by a caller claiming to have seen four men toss the man off a flyover along DUKE (Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway) heading towards Jalan Duta here.

“Our personnel rushed to the scene and found the body,” he said.

However, the caller’s claim was not accurate, he added.

“Investigators from the CID and Hospital Kuala Lumpur forensics department combed the area and found that there was no way the witness could have seen what he claimed because he was too far away from the spot and could not have seen the accident, which occurred on the right side of the expressway,” he said.

Further investigations found that the victim, Mohd Zuffizzan Mat Noh, who was with the Royal Malaysian Navy, had a nerve illness and was known to suffer sudden blackouts.

“His wife and a naval affairs director told us about his illness,” said DSP Shafie.

Investigations showed that the incident happened at 6pm on the stretch of the expressway heading to Jalan Duta from Semarak.

“His motorcycle was believed to have skidded and hit a concrete wall. The impact of the collision flung the victim off the elevated stretch of the highway 80m down to the ground,” he revealed, adding that the victim suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.

He said there were no signs of foul play or a collision.

“The victim worked at Mindef (Defence Ministry) and was on his way home after work,” he added.

According to DSP Shafie, Mohd Zuffizzan had previously been involved in a traffic accident because of a blackout and was later warded at Hospital Sungai Buloh.

Mohd Zuffizzan leaves a wife and two children.
