JOHOR BARU: A businessman has been remanded for three days for allegedly insulting Islam in connection with the death of PAS spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din.

The 69-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly making the insensitive comments on Facebook under the name Ong TK.

An application to remand the suspect was submitted to the magistrate’s court here by Johor police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department on Tuesday morning.

Court registrar Faridatul Farrah Mohd Shukri issued the three-day remand order starting Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested in Mengelembu near Ipoh, Perak on Monday before being brought to the Johor police headquarters at around 5pm on the same day.

Two other suspects arrested for similar reasons walked free after magistrate Noor Aisyah Ahmad denied the police’s request to remand them.

The two suspects, a 62-year-old and 50-year-old strategic communications consultant, were arrested in Bandar Utama and Shah Alam for the contents of their tweets.

All were picked up for investigation under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
