Petron Malaysia to probe Port Dickson refinery fire

KUALA LUMPUR: Petron Malaysia is conducting an investigation to find the cause of fire that occurred at its refinery in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan last night.

In a statement received from the oil company, Petron Malaysia also extended its appreciation to all parties involved in battling the 9pm blaze.

"Petron Malaysia confirms that a fire occurred at the Port Dickson Refinery 9pm yesterday.

"It was immediately put out at 11pm, and no one was hurt in the incident.

"We would like to accord our appreciation to emergency responders, Fire and Rescue Department, and Shell Refinery for their assistance and coordinated efforts to put out the fire successfully, and we also thank the police for assisting the emergency responses."

The statement also said that Petron Malaysia was closely coordinating with authorities in their probes into the incident, and that it did not affect supply to its customers.

About 9pm last night, a fire broke out at the oil refinery at Batu 1 here tonight, temporarily disrupting its operations.

It was reported that the incident saw 10-metre-high flames shoot up, believed to be due to leaking on the refinery stacks.

More than 30 firemen and seven fire engines from the Port Dickson, Teluk Kemang, Seremban and Seremban 2 fire stations were dispatched to the scene.
