KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian model and actor Ahya Rosli was fined RM800 by the magistrate's court for punching an executive in the face last week.

Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid handed down the sentence on Ahya, whose real name Ahya Ulumuddin Rosli, after the 29-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence.

The model, who starred in Malaysian historical film Tanda Putera, was ordered to serve three months jail if he fails to pay the fine.

Ahya, who is also the son of veteran screen legend Normah Damanhuri, was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Mohamad Asrul Affendi Roseli, 31, at the Sentral Mark futsal court in Setapak here at 11.30pm on June 14.

In pleading for leniency, counsel Ahmad Ridza Mohd said that during the incident, his client could not control his emotion and anger which led him to beat up the victim.

However, deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Hanim Abd Halim urged for a deterrent sentence and for the court to consider the public's interest.

The accused's charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment for up to a year and fine of up to RM2,000 or both, if found guilty.

According to the case facts, the accused had attacked the victim just as the latter arrived at the parking lot of the futsal court.

The victim who had gone there for a futsal match with his friends, was punched several times by the accused on the face and sustained wounds to his right eyebrow, a black right eye, a busted lip, and a swollen face.
