KUALA TERENGGANU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi warned Barisan Nasional lawmakers not to collude with the opposition to vote against passing the 2016 Budget.
Zahid said he had received information that a certain group was attempting to coax BN representatives in Parliament against supporting the 2016 Budget.
“If the budget is not passed, the government will fall.
“I must remind all that any attempt to bring down the prime minister is tantamount to bringing down the government. The outcome will not just affect the government but also the people,” he said when closing the state Umno convention.
Zahid, also an Umno vice-president, said he would be watching the voting on the 2016 Budget closely as well as monitoring the loyalty of all BN representatives.
Addressing the state party leaders, Zahid said the opposition in Terengganu was weak and that the only thing that could defeat Umno in the state was internal bickering.
“Don’t repeat the experience of 1999,” he said, alluding to the 1999 general election when the state government fell to Pas.
