Police probe anti-Bersih 'red shirts' after self-defence skills

PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating the anti-Bersih group whose members gave a demonstration of their self-defence skills in anticipation of possible violence during this weekend's rally.
Police said the group's organisers, including Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Yunos, have been asked to give their statements at 3pm Thursday at the Dang Wangi station.
Jamal told The Star Online that he would first give a press conference at Dataran Merdeka before heading to the Dang Wangi station to be interviewed by the police.
In showing off their skills in front of Sogo department store on Tuesday, the group's members, in red t-shirts, were seen breaking tiles and wood with their heads and body.
On Wednesday, Jamal said his men were prepared to "fight" Bersih 4 rally participants should violence break out on Aug 29 and 30.
He said his men had been training with knives and swords as part of their self defence.
Police are probing the group under the Peaceful Assembly Act which allows citizens to organise and participate in assemblies peaceably and without arms, subject to restrictions deemed necessary and in the interest of public order and security.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said action will be taken against any party which incites or promotes violence, including the so-called "red shirts."
