KLANG: One man was shot dead and another injured after a high-speed car chase with the police early Wednesday.

Both men were high on the wanted list for various crimes.

The incident happened at Bandar Bukit Tinggi at about 6.45am, after police were tipped off about the presence of the men’s Perodua Alza in the area.

According to South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Azman Abdul Razak, two police teams - one from the South Klang serious crime unit and another from the Serdang narcotics unit – went to the scene and gave chase when the two suspects tried to get away.

He said an almost five kilometre chase took place within the area, during which the suspects rammed their car into police vehicles as well as two other cars.

“The police team tried to stop the fleeing suspects many times but failed.

“They had to open fire to prevent the suspects from ramming into members of the public who were already up and about at that time,’’ ACP Azman told reporters at the South Klang district police headquarters here Wednesday.

He said the dead man was a 35-year-old Sabahan who had a police record related to the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The man died due to bullet wounds to the lungs.

The driver of the car, who was shot in the arm, tried to escape but was apprehended by police after a short chase.

He is currently being treated at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah here.

ACP Azman said the injured man, also a Sabahan, had a previous police record for burglary and robbery.

“He has been committing robbery and burglary around the Klang Valley for the last 15 years,’’ added ACP Azman.

A total of six bullets were fired in the incident, said ACP Azman.

He added that a bloodstained knife was also found in the suspects’ vehicle.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
