Construction worker dies after being dragged by bus

SHAH ALAM: A construction worker was killed after he stepped in front of an oncoming bus and was dragged under the vehicle along Jalan Meranti in Section 2 here.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said that the victim Abd Khalid Hamidon was standing by the roadside near Persiaran Masjid and was crossing the road when a Rapid KL bus reportedly hit him at about 5.15pm, Sunday.

There were no other vehicles on the road at the time and there were no witnesses to the accident, he said.

Section 15 Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Sufi Yunus said that Abd Khalid was dragged under the bus for about five metres down the road, sustaining severe injuries to his head and body.


Officers pulled his body from under the bus and sent him to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The bus driver claimed that the victim was waiting by the side of the road and only started to cross it as he was about to drive passed him.

“No one else saw the incident. The case has been given over to the police to investigate,” he said.

In a separate case, a man was found dead in a mysterious circumstances in a vacant factory lot in Bukit Sentosa, Rawang.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt R. Supramaniam said the that man, who is believed to have been in his 30s, was found sprawled face down in the compound by members of the public at about 5.30pm, Saturday.

His body was not decomposed and there was not a scratch on him. He was found in an almost empty industrial area, Supramaniam said.

“The body has a tattoo of a sign on his right hand and was dressed in a red and blue Barcelona jersey and black jeans. We have sent his body to the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital to ascertain the cause of his death,” he said.

Police are investigating whether there was foul play involved in the case.
