PETALING JAYA, Dec 18 — It was the end of the road for three foreigners involved in a series of robberies in luxury homes in Shah Alam and Ampang for the past two years.
The trio, aged between 25 and 30, were killed in a shootout yesterday, two hours after a break-in and attempted robbery was reported in Banting.
The incident unfolded at 6.30am when two police patrol teams encountered five suspects in Jalan Segenting near the entrance to Carey Island in Klang.
Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the suspects refused to stop and crashed their vehicle into a lamp-post.
“The suspects rushed out of the car and one of them fired a shot towards the police,” he said.
“My men were forced to return fire and three of the five robbers were shot dead,” he said.
The car used by the robbers was reported stolen in Subang Jaya last year.
Abdul Rahim said the other two suspects, also foreigners, escaped by foot into a nearby jungle and police had launched a manhunt.
Initial police investigations revealed the men were responsible for at least eight break-ins at bungalows in Pandan Indah and Taman Melawati in Ampang since last year.
They had been preying on Bukit Jelutong in Shah Alam for the last few months.
“Our checks showed the robbers were part of a group, whose members were shot dead by police in previous robbery incidents,” said Abdul Rahim.
Police recovered a pistol, two parang, three mobile phones and a bullet magazine at the scene.
