KUALA LUMPUR: Angered by the abduction and murder of his brother, a Gang 21 member kidnapped and killed a 30-year-old businessman, in what police believe to be an act of revenge.
On Nov 12, the Indian-Myanmar businessman was abducted in full view of his family by four men, armed with two pistols and two parang, at about 6.10pm in Pusat Bandar Sentul Utara.
Eight days later, police arrested the 41-year-old Gang 21 member at Hospital Banting, Selangor, when he turned up to claim the remains of his brother, said Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy.
He said the suspect’s brother, also a member of Gang 21, was kidnapped and murdered in Selangor last month.
The businessman, he said, could have been targeted for his involvement that killing.
ACP Munusamy said after 10 days of interrogation, the suspect led police to a forest near a sand factory in Bidor, Perak, on Dec 1, where the businessman was believed to have been killed and buried.
“He died from slash wounds to his neck,” he said.
ACP Munusamy added that prior to the incident, the businessman had survived an attempt on his life five or six months ago.
“We believe that the businessman was involved in drug dealings. He was not a gang member, but he had affiliations with gangs.
“Drug rivalry could have prompted the attempted murder,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961 and Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
