SEPANG, Dec 11 — Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) must respond to questions raised by the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) about delays and cost overruns at the KLIA2 airport, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Liow Tiong Lai said today.
In a press conference after his first official visit to the airport, Liow urged MAHB to be accountable and to respond to PAC themselves.
His response comes after MAHB said it must first consult with the ministry before an audit can begin.
“The PAC query needs to be responded by MAHB urgently and they need to be transparent about,” Liow said, also urging that MAHB be accountable.
“We are confident that MAHB will answer all of PAC’s queries,” he added.
Liow’s reply comes on the heels of PAC member Tony Pua’s criticism last week, that both MAHB and the Transport Ministry are unnecessarily delaying “urgent” checks.
Pua also suggested that MAHB’s insistence on consulting with the ministry was an attempt to punt the issue between the two entities until the controversy fades from public attention, pointing out that the ministry has also been “deafeningly” and “unacceptably” silent on the issue.
