Second Malaysian dies fighting for IS

KUALA LUMPUR: A second Malaysian suicide bomber, believed to be linked to Islamic State militants, died in Homs, Syria, last month.
Bukit Aman’s Counter-Terrorism Division principal assistant director Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the man, identified as Ahmad Affendi Abdull Manaff, 27, died in an attack on a military installation.
“Based on intelligence gathered and communication with our counterparts there (Syria), it was confirmed that he died during the attack,” he said, adding that police believed Affendi had carried out the attack either on Nov 8 or Nov 9.
He said Affendi had gone to Syria on April 23 to join IS.
It was reported that Affendi was believed to have driven a bomb-laden truck into a military installation killing about 50 soldiers of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
Affendy, also known as Abu Zakaria, was from Tumpat, Kelantan.
On May 26, Ahmad Tarmimi Maliki became Malaysia’s first suicide bomber when he killed 25 Iraqi military officers in Anbar, Iraq.
